Reddits Female Dating Strategy Offers Women Advice And A Strict Rulebook For How To Act

New research reveals women face a trade-off when rating men’s attractiveness. Despite decades of research to the contrary, ChatGPT predicts that men and women want exactly the same qualities in a mate. Estimates suggest that about 20 percent of marriages are sexless. This finding shines a light on a potential explanation for incels’ frustration. Incels have forged inward-looking communities across the internet, most prominently on Reddit where their groups frequently go under total identity change to avoid getting shut down yet again. One of the easiest ways to find someone’s IP address is to exchange email with them, and the application on #DateAnIncel claimed an “all-star matchmaker” would reach out within 2-3 working days.

INCEL INCIDENTS

He was charged with inciting hate against women for his inflammatory posts made around the time of the 30th anniversary of the École Polytechnique attack. Hernandez opened fire at the Westgate Entertainment District, allegedly targeting couples. Three people were injured in the shooting, two are said to be a couple. The prosecuting attorney labeled Hernandez as a “self-described incel” and alleged that he sent video recordings of the attack to a female he was interested in, hoping to impress her. Carini accidently detonateda homemade explosive device, injuring himself and leading investigators to find additional bomb making materials and notes supporting incel ideology at his home. On April 14, 2021, the FBI and NYPD arrested Malik Sanchez for allegedlyperpetrating a hoax bomb threatat a Manhattan restaurant in February 2021.

Incelhad gone from an inclusive, sensitive term for people sharing their experiences and struggles with love, sex, and relationships to the moniker for a virulently and violently misogynistic group. Short forinvoluntary celibacy, incelrefers to an internet subculture of men who blame women for the fact that they are not having sex. Mike recently got a jaw procedure called BSSO, plus a hair transplant. After the surgeries, he met two girls at his other job, teaching comedy, whom he considered “cute,” and he took this as a sign of success. Now he’s investing in cryptocurrency in hopes of getting more procedures with Eppley.

He contacted an old friend in a neighboring town and rebuilt his relationship with his parents. When he took pictures of himself or looked in the mirror, he felt calm. They seemed to make eye contact more and smile, though Truth4lie couldn’t be sure if it was all in his head. In forum posts, incels classify SwingTowns Chads by phenotype (“Keltic Nordid,” “Gracile Mediterranid”) and style . They repost scientific research on the importance of symmetry and harmony in universal standards of beauty. They discuss the Golden Mask, a Platonic ideal of a face designed by a California surgeon using the ratio of phi.

But, to start dating, all you need in terms of status is a group of friends around you who’ll make you look awesome when you’re out at a party and you encounter someone attractive. When women see you with a friend group, they’ll think, “okay, he must be cool, because all these people like him.” They’ll also make you happier, which will help, too — upbeat people are far more attractive. But they don’t, to the extent that Jordan Peterson’s basic proclamations seem like lightning bolts of truth to many adolescent dudes. This indicates that there’s a big vacuum, in the minds of young men, where elementary wisdom should be. And that vacuum can be filled, easily, by a hateful ideology like inceldom, which is, again, served up in an incredibly convenient way by forum culture.

The forums rarely mentioned wage gaps, pregnancy discrimination, or sexual violence, except in jest. To keep track of the various manosphere groups, the team had to skim seven dedicated forums, along with 57 subreddits and a number of specialized wiki groups. Many of these wikis sprang up after the groups were banned from social media for their extreme views.

There are women who identify as Incels as well, called “Fem-cels”, but they’re rare. An interesting thing about female Incels is they’re more likely to blame themselves for their celibacy, and don’t seem to habour the same aggression as most male Incels . In the majority of cases, female Inceldom does not create misandry in the same way that male Inceldom creates misogyny, but both harbour misogyny by blaming women for their shortcomings. Also, most male Incels don’t believe female Incels can exist, because in core Incel ideology, women can get sex whenever they want just by being a woman. Because incels and femcels have turned to blaming the other gender for all of their problems rather than taking personal responsibilty for their inability to have healthy relationships with the opposite sex.

Starting in 2016, Bennington used social media to harass and physically and sexually threaten women and teens, specifically females who rejected his advances. Bennington promoted incel ideology online and referred to Elliot Rodger as a victim. Bennington, who faced up to 10 years in federal prison, was sentenced in April 2021 to 18 months. Incels “forge a sense of identity around a perceived inability to form sexual or romantic relationships”. They may blame themselves, society at large and specifically women (most self-identified Incels are men) for these perceived failures, and therefore feel a bitterness towards women and themselves.

In The Right To Sex, her 2021 bestselling book of essays, philosopher Amia Srinivasan looks at the anti-sex feminist movements of the 60s and 70s. For them, celibacy was empowering because – theoretically, at least – within a patriarchal system, any sex with men was experienced from a position of subordination. And for the first time in a long time, Peterson started talking to people outside his insular community. Peterson said doing media interviews — and meeting real people — after the Toronto attack served as a “wake-up call.” Society teaches boys that they must lose their virginity and attract women to be real men, he explained. When they fail to do so, he said, they are flooded with shame, which is sometimes transmuted into rage.

She called the forum’s newsletter “Alana’s Involuntary Celibacy Project”, which she shorted to INVCEL and then INCEL. “It was a friendly place,” she told the BBC years later, adding that a couple even met over the site and got married. As for Alana, she eventually worked out that she was queer, started dating, and stopped focussing on the forum. Meanwhile, the internet community is also at least partially policing itself. The subreddit incels without the Hate seeks to “provide a positive and helpful community” for people who have struggled to find intimacy. And then there is IncelTears, the “part-mocking, part-watchdog subreddit,” which was created to counter what it called “hateful incels” and had more than 346,000 members as of late March.

In a recent forum thread, he posted a selfie specced out with angles and degrees, measurements of his features; he then found a photo of Tom Cruise and gave it the same treatment. (Mike’s jaw angle was 69.02 degrees; Tom’s was 76.31.) “I want to solve this woman thing,” he told me. On forums, incels argue that the diagnosis is often a kind of reverse discrimination and that women seeking invasive procedures to fix relatively small flaws are not greeted as skeptically. “Social media and ease of access/exposure to plenty of top 3% chaddy hunks has literally set the bar much higher for men,” wrote one user.

The main character of Whatever, a 1994 novel by French author Michel Houellebecq, has been labeled by Adam Kirsch of The New York Times as a “proto-incel” with the novel as a whole being retrospectively evaluated as predictive of the modern incel movement. On the evening of May 23, 2014, 22-year-old California native Elliot Rodger stabbed three men to death in his apartment. He then drove to a local sorority house, shot three women, continued to a local deli and shot a man to death there, too. By way of explanation, he posted a chilling, seven-minute video detailing the specifics of his murder rampage, describing it as ‘retribution’. The idea of celibacy as resistance is not new – but it harks back to an older tradition, from feminism’s second wave.

Of course, these examples are also just plain misogyny as well as signs of Inceldom; however, acts like this can later escalate into extreme acts like stalking and harassment. But I do hope he grows out of this and finds support, because one would have to feel a lot of turmoil to vent in their profile like this. As well as that, I hope he educates himself, because while this profile is a desperate attempt to get attention from women, it’s likely having the opposite effect. Often Incels start as lonely men who find themselves in the wrong crowd, because Incels draw each other in.

Their self-proclaimed ugliness or low IQ aren’t the problems. Incels are so embroiled in their own victimization, that they blindly hate and push away their objects of desire while arguing that they deserve love, sex, and affection. I have enough reason to believe that #DateAnIncel was a hoax or a joke all along, but ultimately, what’s more interesting is the curtain separating incels from reality. Incels say they hate women, and there’s no denying the overtly dangerous sexism intertwined in their definition, but when I tried to understand what incels want from women, I realized that their violence is ultimately rooted in fear.
